There was a famous Anglo-Saxon woman of the same period, the tenth century. This was Ethelfleada, the daughter of Alfred the Great. She is not well known, but deserves to be! Sources tell us that she led armies against the Vikings, established towns, rebuilt Roman cities and basically helped free most of her Kingdom from Danish rule. One remarkable Lady.
